Question: What are badges?
Answer: For several years, photo ID badges have been issued to PHBA managers, coaches and PHBA personnel. Managers and coaches must wear badges during games and practices for the protection of the children and for easier identification as necessary.
Question: Why do we have to wear badges?
Answer: It is to help parents, guardians, Park & Rec. and law enforcement officials know that a particular person coaching children has completed a background check, been fingerprinted by local law enforcement, and has completed the requisite amount of coaches clinics.
Question: What do I need to do to get a badge?
1. Sign up at one of the Fall registration times in person to be a coach or a manager. You can also be fingerprinted at that time if you are a new coach.
2. Attend the mandatory pre-season coaches meeting where you get your picture taken and badge issued.
3. Attend at least two coaching clinics prior to the start of the season
4. Once PHBA verifies that you have attended the clinics, you will receive a sticker at Rules Night or Draw Night. That updated sticker needs to be placed on your badge below your picture—it’s like putting the new year sticker on your car license plate.
Question: What happens if I don’t attend enough clinics?
Answer: You will not be allowed to coach or manage a team during games or participate on the field during practices.
Question: I have coached in PHBA for several years. Do I still need to attend the coaches’ clinics?
Answer: We appreciate your commitment, but you must attend the clinics. If you are very experienced, you can offer to teach a clinic. Contact Rob Curran at rc@dodgeandcox.com for more information.
Question: I still have my badge from previous years. Do I need a new one?
Answer: Please keep your badge--You can still use your photo ID from previous seasons, BUT you need to have a current sticker for that year. You receive a sticker once PHBA verifies that you have attended two clinics for that season.
Question: I have already been fingerprinted by PHBA. Do I still need to be fingerprinted?
Answer: No. You only need to be reprinted if you have been out of the league for a few years, otherwise you’re good.
Question: I have been fingerprinted as a teacher or as a firefighter, do I still need a badge?
Answer: Yes, unless you can prove that you are a sworn law enforcement official, you must still get fingerprinted.
Question: If I’m unable to attend Draw Night, how can I pick up my badge and stickers?
Answer: The league will notify via email, website or Facebook page when there will be another opportunity to pick up your badge and stickers prior to Opening Day. You can also have a fellow coach from your team pick it up on your behalf.
