President's Letter 2012
This year we lost a big part of our board, Bart Krasner. He sadly passed after a long battle with diabetes. Bart was involved with almost everything in the league for as long as I can remember and he truly had a passion for helping this league and making it a better place for kids to play and learn. He will truly be missed by all of us. Our hearts go out to his wife & daughter.
This year we voted in some new members to the PHBA Board. Robert Booth will be in charge of the new Volunteer Coordinator position. He will be keeping track of all the volunteer hours and make sure they were complete or the LAFF fees cashed if not. We also welcome new to the board Troy Hess. He will be Opening Day Coordinator with the retirement of Rich Perssons from the board. Mike Sprecher has been voted in and is coming on board to run Photo Day with Sandy Engel moving on to College Park.
As PHBA being a feeder system into our local high schools in our area, we are tying to work closely with our College Park baseball and softball teams. On the boys side they got to take the field with the CP players before the game and it was a great experience. Hopefully we can do it with the softball side in the near future. We had many new clinics to make everyone knowledgeable, fresh and fun for the coaches and kids. This allows for better coaching and playing ball where “Every Kid Plays”. Our travel teams at the different age levels are the Hawks, Panthers, and All Star teams which creates all different levels of competitive ball as well as having 1st place finishes over the summer!
This year alone we had almost 1700 kids that played ball from February to June and some all year long. Then in mid June we hosted the boy’s base ball tournament with approximately 50 teams from all over the area. In July we hosted the girl’s softball tournament with approximately 45 teams. This brings in close to $10,000 to the local community. We work closely with Pleasant Hill Park & Rec donating approximately $50,000 to the Pleasant Hill Park & Recreation Department as well as lending the Recreation Department and the City of Pleasant Hill some of our equipment. We also help out with the Walnut Festival and had a float in the Parade this year. PHBA is a huge part of the community and it has to do with each one of you that volunteers for the league which helps enhance your child’s life experiences.
I think of my close friend Bart Krasner which makes me realize how quickly life can pass you by and I am grateful to him and his family for everything they have done for this league. While I am now on my last child of 6 in this league I am thankful for all the wonderful memories and know that there will be many more of you that will make this league strive for the next 54 years and create new memories in the future of PHBA.
God Bless,
Mark Rolandelli
Your 2012 PHBA President
